HOPKINSVILLE, Kent. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) took home the 2008 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship in April at Thunder Alley in Omaha, and they did with Hammer in their bag. The Lady Hawks, who placed second last year to national champions, the Vanderbilt Lady Commodores, defeated the Arkansas State University Indians, 4-2, and captured bragging rights for the year.

Coach Sharon Brummell shared, "I'm speechless. After last year, I thought we could contend for the championship."

Brummell has been the team's coach for the last ten years and regularly attends Bowl Expo where she struck up a friendship with Hammer. "I love Hammer products! They have the largest variety of products."

Lead by senior Jessica Worsley, who was also chosen the 2008 Most Valuable Bowler by the NCAA and also the 2008 All-Tournament Team, the Lady Hawks used a wide variety of Hammer balls en route to the championship, including the Black Widow, Vibe and Raw Hammer series. Worsley, Laura Zanrucha, Kristina Frahm, Christine King and freshman Maria Rodriguez, also chosen to the All-Tournament Team, have secured their place in the national record books on several levels. This title is the first NCAA National Championship title for UMES. In addition, the victory made Coach Brummell the first woman and first African-American to lead a team to the title since NCAA established the championship in 2004. Senior standout, Worsley, plans to continue her bowling career as an assistant coach at Adelphi University.
