ARLINGTON, Texas - At age 81, Ollie Harbin, of Lee's Summit, Mo., became the oldest woman to roll a 300 game July 8 in the Summer Series Mixer League at AMF West Lanes in Overland Park, Kan.
Harbin, who also had a 300 game at age 77 in 2005, moved past Shirlee VanDenBurg who rolled 300 at age 80 in Battle Creek, Mich., last November. Another Lee's Summit bowler, Lois Morgan, held the record before VanDenBurg with a 300 at age 79 in 2004.
"I was just relaxed," she said. "Sometimes I get nervous but I didn't this time. I didn't even think about it until the last shot."
Harbin, who was using a Hammer ball, is featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of the Aug. 3 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.
