Hammer bowling’s Bill O’Neill continues to leave his mark on the bowling world.
The 28-year-old Southampton, Pa., native was among seven male bowlers named to the 2010 Team USA squad on Nov. 4.
O’Neill hopes to build on his success from his abbreviated 2009 Team USA experience. O’Neill was added to the team’s roster in January 2009.
“It feels really good to be named to Team USA again,” O’Neill said. “The main goal for this year is to go to the World Championships and that is something that could be a really great experience. I was an add-on to Team USA in late January so I was on the team for almost all of 2009.”
During his stint with Team USA in 2009, O’Neill won four gold and one silver medals and set a new world record in singles scoring in September during the Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships in Puerto Rico.
“Bowling with Team USA is something I’ve always dreamed about since I was a young bowler,” O’Neill said. “To be able to represent our country at many of the world’s premier International events means so much to me.”
The 13 bowlers who make up Team USA are comprised of seven men and six women, according to Team USA officials. “We are very fortunate that we had such a talented pool of players to choose from,” said Team USA coach Rod Ross.
In his first season with Hammer, O’Neill continues to rack up wins and take down the competition. “From the moment Bill came on staff, he’s continued to show his talent at the sport of bowling, succeeding on so many different levels,” said Hammer Brand Manager Jeff Ussery. “From Team USA to the PBA Tour, Bill is definitely one of the rising young stars in our sport.”
