HOPKINSVILLE, Kent. ‚Äì  On December 28, the town of Kalamzoo, Mich., lost one of its most talented senior bowlers. Ed Lorenz, 69, collapsed and died after bowling the third perfect game of his life, in the first league game of the night.

“Ed will truly be missed by our local bowling community,” said Scott Brunner, owner of Scott Brunner’s Pro Shop in Airway Lanes. “He was unbelievable! One of the best senior bowlers in our town and a great ambassador of the sport of bowling.”

Using Hammer’s Hawg Wild ball, Lorenz rolled a perfect game to start off his night. Then, in the fifth frame of his second game, he clutched his chest and collapsed.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Johnny D. Masters, who had been bowling with Lorenz said, "If he could have written a way to go out, this would be it.”

Hammer brand manager Brian Graham added, “I didn’t know Ed personally but I understand he was a real fan of Hammer. Hammer wishes to extend its sympathy to his family.”

Lorenz had recently been inducted into the Kalamazoo Metro Bowling Association Hall of Fame. In 2004, he started the Senior Kalamazoo Masters League and many notable seniors in the area joined the league, including George Howard, ABC Hall of Famer, and Victor Iwlew. Brunner believes that a tournament in his honor may be started in a year or two.
