Locks, CT - Patrick Allen, Tarrytown, N.Y., rolled a 2,326 nine-game
pinfall to lead the first of two squads Thursday afternoon in the PBA
Cambridge Credit Classic at Bradley Bowl.
Allen, who missed the PBA Geico Open last week with chicken pox,
averaged 258.44 to set the pace for the rest of the field.
"It was nice to get off to a good start," said Allen, who had a high
game of 289. "I didn't know how I would feel after missing last week,
but I felt good after practicing earlier in the week, and I was lucky
to have the right ball in my hand."
There were five 300 games rolled in the early squad, which was already
one shy of the season-high of six, done in the PBA Miller High Life
Open and the PBA Empire State Open. Ken Simard, Tony Reyes, Arturo
Quintero, Steve Jaros, and Don Yoshihara all achieved perfection.
PBA Hall of Famers Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., and Walter Ray Williams
Jr., Ocala, Fla., both put themselves in a good position to make the
round of 64. Weber finished 27th after rolling 2,088, while Williams
ended up 29th after posting 2,082.
Senior PBA member Dale Eagle, Tavares, Fla., who will be one of two
senior bowlers in the Dexter PBA Tournament of Champions next week,
stood in 10th with 2,169. Local amateur Chris Rebstock, Middletown,
Conn., used a 299 in his seventh game to jump into 5th with 2,202.
The second squad will get underway tonight at 5 p.m. ET for their
qualifying session after which the 175-man field will be cut to the top
64 competitors. The top 64 will return tomorrow at 10 a.m. to roll
another nine-game set. From that, the top 32 bowlers will begin match
play. Match play is a best-of-seven, single-elimination format where
bowlers are ranked based on the previous 20 tournaments. ESPN will
televise the five-man finals live on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1-2:30 p.m. |
