HOPKINSVILLE, Kent.
Hammer staffer and veteran Tour player, Doug
Kent, captured his seventh career Tour title Sunday, February 26, at
the GEICO Classic. In front of friends and family in New York, Kent
defeated Norm Duke, 222-201, using the Hammer Road Hawg and Hammer Vibe
balls.
"Doug is one of the smoothest players on the PBA Tour, so it is great
to see him in the winner's circle again," said Brian Graham, Hammer
brand manager. "He has been bowling great all season so it was just a
matter of time before he was on the TV show and winning another
title. Nothing Hits Like a Hammer!"
Kent advanced to the title match with a 227-213 win over his
brother-in-law, PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III, using the Hammer
Road Hawg. In the title match against Duke, he used the Hammer Vibe
which allowed him to play a straighter line to the pocket than the Road
Hawg. The combination of these two balls spelled victory for Kent.
Kent, a resident of nearby Newark, is one of the most consistent
players on Tour. In 2001-2002, he dominated the leader board in
earnings and has since advanced to match play 60 times and cashed in 90
times. This year is Kent's first year on Tour as a Hammer staffer and
his average is 2.43 points higher than his 04-05 season. In addition to
representing Hammer on Tour, Kent and his wife, Chrissie, own and
operate two bowling centers with Hammerhead Pro Shops in the Newark
area.
As the winner of the GEICO Classic, Kent earns a 2006-2007 Tour exemption and $40,000 in pocket change.
