HOPKINSVILLE, Kent.
All eyes are on Hammer's Doug Kent as he enjoys his second
win of the season. Using the Black Widow on Sunday at the Denny's World Championship,
Kent became the sixth bowler in PBA Tour history to accomplish this feat and officially
entered the ranks for 06-07 Player of the Year consideration. He defeated Chris
Barnes, 237-216.
"You could tell by his expression and intense concentration that Doug was really
focused," said Hammer brand manager Brian Graham. "He struck when it mattered
and he's now firmly in position to contend for Player of the Year honors."
With his wife, Chrissie, looking on, Kent jumped out to an early lead and threw
a strike with his first ball in the tenth frame, cinching his ninth career title.
Kent, in his second year as a Hammer staff member, is one of the Tour's veterans
with two decades of experience under his belt. During the 01-02 season, Kent was
the highest earnings competitor, and he now looks to repeat as the leading money
winner for the 06-07 season. He now leads the PBA Tour earnings with $197,000
and has made three TV finals appearances. Kent earned a Tour exemption for the
next four years and $50,000 with this most recent trip to the winner's circle.
Fellow Hammer staffer, Tony Reyes, finished fourth and took home $10,000.
