Haandrickman is 2009 EYC Masters Champion
Carmen Haandrickman ended her run with the Netherlands’ national youth bowling team on a high note during the European Youth Championship.
The 22nd annual event, in which 30 nations participate, was held in Malmo, Sweden in mid-April.
Haandrickman captured the gold medal in this year’s Master’s event - at 18 years old; this was her last EYC.
Using the Hammer Hot Sauce Pearl, Haandrickman dominated. After falling 2-1 in her first match, the Dutch woman swept the four remaining matches, averaging 229.9 during 11 games. She defeated Elin Adolfsson, of Sweden, 2-0.
“She was amazing,” said her coach, Betsie van Oudheusden, who made her coaching debut at the event.
While this may be Haandrickman’s final youth event, her bowling career is just beginning.
Teammate Chantal Jacobs won her first silver medal in the singles event, falling 255-203 in the final round. According to van Oudheusden, Jacobs is ready to follow in Haandrickman’s foot steps.
