HAMMER BOWLING BALL LEADS MERSCH TO POSSIBLE EAGLE
Orlando’s Jeffery Mersch, a former Junior Team USA member and collegiate bowler at the University of Central Florida, started his trip to Reno, Nev., off with a visit to the Hammer Booth in the National Bowling Stadium; he ended his trip with a chance of winning a USBC Championship Trophy, the Eagle.
“The first day I was in Reno I went to the Hammer booth and saw my college teammate Mr. Shawn Ryan, where he drilled me up a Hammer Black Widow Sting and an Onyx Vibe,” Mersch said.
Mersch used his newly drilled balls to bowl sets of 645 in team, 718 in singles, and 749 in doubles. Mersch’s doubles score was paired with Erik Vermilyea’s 758, for a 1507 total - currently enough to claim 1st place at the USBC Open Championship.
During game three of his doubles set, Mersch was faced with a very tough decision as he saw his ball reaction fading. After a quick discussion with his teammates he made the necessary change and charged his way up the leader board.
“When we started the last game I could see my ball reaction starting to drastically change,” Mersch explained. “After throwing three consecutive nine counts with my Black Widow Sting, Shawn called me over and suggested I switch to the Onyx Vibe for the last few frames. I talked with my partner and he agreed, so I confidently made the switch. After a nine count in the 9th I stepped up in the 10th and, with the lead at stake, threw 3 strikes giving Erik the chance to put us on top.”
“I definitely want to thank Shawn Ryan for helping me out and my teammates for all the support they gave me. They are a blast to bowl with every year,” Jeff ended.
“We at Hammer bowling are proud of Jeff and are excited at the possibility of his bringing home an Eagle with his performance,” said Jeff Ussery, Hammer Brand Manager. “Even though the tournament’s not over yet, that score has a really good chance of holding the lead to the end. It just proves that ‘Nothing hits like a Hammer!’”
