TEAM USA ROSTER ANNOUNCED FOR WORLD WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Team USA women’s squad has been selected for the 2011 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Women’s Championships and bowling fans will be able to watch the action live on BOWL.com.
The World Women’s Championships are scheduled to take place Sept. 3-11 in Hong Kong and the United States Bowling Congress will provide free live streaming of the event from start to finish.
The United States will be represented by Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie, Texas, Shannon O’Keefe of Arlington, Texas, and Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio.
With a combined 43 years on Team USA, the six players will bring a wealth of experience to the event as they look to bring home the coveted five-player team event gold medal. Team USA has finished second in the event three consecutive times.
“This is one the strongest, most experienced teams we have ever fielded to compete in the World Women’s Championships,” Team USA head coach Rod Ross said. “It was difficult to narrow down our roster to just six players because we had six other players on the team who were just as deserving to represent the United States.”
At the most recent World Women’s Championships in 2009 in Las Vegas, Nation won the singles gold medal, the lone gold medal in the event for the U.S. team that year. In 2007, O’Keefe claimed the singles gold.
Bowling fans around the world will be able to watch all qualifying rounds, semifinals and finals live on BOWL.com and the coverage will be available on demand as well. The live streaming coverage is a partnership between USBC, WTBA, the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress and BowlingDigital.com.
