THE LATEST QUESTION & ANSWER

Mike Asks:

“I’m looking for a ball that works well against oil carry-down. I don’t want much skid and I want lots of control in my shots. Which of the new Hammer balls would best suit those lane conditions?”

Hammer’s Answer:

“We would recommend the Plague ball for a ball that will fight through carrydown and work through the heavy oil portions of the pattern.”

Jay Asks:

“How do you decide what the factory finish for a new bowling ball will be?”

Hammer’s Answer:

“Actually, during the ball testing procedure, we try to isolate balls that we feel meet the performance target given by the brand manager.  From there, we tweak surfaces to see if there is a product that meets the requirements, but also demonstrates versatility through coverstock changes.  At that point, the best rolling surface is identified and chosen for our new Hammer product!”

Larry Asks:

“I wanted to try a Hardcore Grind, but I notice the diff is the same as the Midnight Vibe which I have in a 13 pound weight. Will the Grind hook more since it has the cover of the original Black Widow?”

Hammer’s Answer:

“The Grind will be an earlier response on the lane with a smoother, but more aggressive look than the Midnight Vibe. With the 800/800/1000/1000/Polish finish on the Grind, you’ll see an earlier breakpoint and a heavier traction hook than the super-polished Midnight Vibe!”

Randy Asks:

“When designing the weight block, how much does the coverstock have to do with it, and why?”

Hammer’s Answer:

“Actually, cores are designed independent of the different coverstock/veneer options.  Once we have a core built around a set of target specifications, we then select the proper coverstocks to yield the shapes and overall ball motions that we’re looking for.”

Shaun Asks:

“If you had a Hammer Plague and a Hammer Jigsaw Trap drilled the same way, on what conditions would you use one and not the other?”

Hammer’s Answer:

“Great question!  The Plague is specifically designed for heavy to medium-heavy oil volumes, and can easily be the “first ball” out of the bag at many league and tournament sessions.  With it’s 800/1000 polished surface, the Jigsaw Trap creates a natural progression down to the medium conditions.  These balls make a great 1-2 punch in anyone’s arsenal!”
