Here is my take on the new Hammer Full Effect. The Full Effect is the 4th Hammer release in the Effect line. The Full Effect features the asymmetric Huntsman core (low RG/higher diff) wrapped by a purple/pink/silver/black HK-22 C2 hybrid cover, the same coverstock technology used on the Zero Mercy series of bowling balls. Box surface is Factory Compound over 1500 Siaair. The layout used in mine is 30 x 6 x 70 and I have tried this on fresh and leftover THS.
Hammer's goal was to release a ball that was a touch earlier than a Zero Mercy Pearl but yet be very continuous in its motion. I actually wanted to do an experiment with this ball. Since 2021, I've been working with stronger pin placements to create more flare, be a little slower in its response and see more motion through all parts of the lane as opposed to being more in the back. Previously, I had been using lots of 5 1/2 - 6 inch pin to PAP layouts. Overall, the results have been really good. But, I wanted to try and take a very strong ball and totally mellow it out. Looking at the numbers and the core/cover match, I figured this might be a good ball to use for a little experiment. I also hit this ball with a worn 1500 Siaair pad again to again try and slow the response time down a bit and make the motion earlier and smoother. I was absolutely thrilled with what I saw. The first 6-7 shots out of the box were all strikes. It showed the earlier more rounded motion that I wanted to achieve. I'll be very interested in trying this on fresh THS as well as various sport patterns and to see how this ball/layout/surface combination follows transition. I think this will be a good ball for many different styles of bowlers. While this ball was an experiment, I will be drilling another and I will figure out the environments in which it will be at its best. My gut tells me medium to higher volume patterns will be where this ball will be in play but again I want to drill another and interrelate it with the Zero Mercy series and a Maximum Effect.
