I drilled the NU 2.0 to try to play outside, closer to the dry on a fresh "House Shot". Factory finish was little too shiny for what I wanted, so I hit it with a 3000 pad, just to get the shine off. Worked really well for what I was looking for. I will keep experimenting with different pads as I hit different lane conditions. VERY smooth transition!
Numbers don’t lie. Before picking up this ball, I was stuck at a 129 average. I struggled with consistency and finding a predictable motion on the lane. Since switching to the NU 2.0, my average has skyrocketed to a 173.
First off, im not a guy who uses urethane often unless im on a short pattern. The first ball i threw with the 2.0 i looked back at my buddy in shock. This was not the same as its predecessor. This one i can actually use on a house shot. I was very surprised this weekend bowling in a tournament where I was really lost. I decided to try going right (i’m right handed) and pulling out this ball. I thought it was a dumb move because everyone had played there but i was desperate. The ball just calmly hooked to the pocket but hit like a ton of bricks splitting the 8-9. Games went on, i kept moving left, the ball kept hitting. I managed to last 5 games with that ball. Let’s just say i am happy that i now have this tool in my bag. It gives me thst extra option when i need less hook and the vibe is too quick off the spot
As a 2-handed bowler with maximum 13 mph speed the fellas at the proshop were pulling their hair out and having me throw every ball they owned/could borrow trying to find something that didn't overhook for me.
This ball was the answer. First night of league with it and I finally got my first sanctioned 200 game and 500 series. Went from a 141 average to averaging 204 since getting it drilled. I've struck more with this ball already than I have with any of the other 7 I own.
It's the most consistent control I've ever experienced in a ball to the point I am entering a 1-Ball tournament with it at the end of the month.
I loved it so much I immediately got a NU Blue for my locker and love that too. Couple shots in with that and I decided that I probably just shouldn't throw anything not Not Urethane ever again.
Here is my take on the new Hammer NU 2.0. The Hammer features the high RG/low diff LED symmetric core wrapped by the NU Active coverstock colored in matte gray. Box finish is 2000 Siaair. This video is shot on fresh THS and the layout on the ball is 0 x 4 x 15. I tried the ball at box surface.
The Hammer NU 2.0 is the latest release in providing bowlers with a "urethanesque", slow response type of motion but still not being an actual urethane ball and thus, subject to seemingly very confusing and ever changing rules and regulations depending on where and what event a bowler is participating. The intent in the 2.0 was to provide a little more overall hook than the original Hammer NU. I can't give an actual side by side comparison because I drilled this NU 2.0 differently than the original Hammer NUs. That being said, to my eye, it does show a little more overall motion than the original NU. At box surface, it definitely gets through the front easily and makes a very gradual rounded move off the spot. I felt personally speaking for my game only, at box surface, I was bit "in between" if you will. By that I mean, for this type of shape, I want to see the ball pick up a touch earlier. If I am seeing this distance that the NU 2.0 at box surface is showing, then I want to see a quicker response and more shape to make sure the ball faces the pins correctly. I believe that with a more aggressive surface prep, perhaps at 800 or 1000 Siaair, I'll see that earlier zone better and thus the move off the spot will match up to the pocket better. I'll be trying that very soon and feel confident that with a more aggressive surface prep, the NU 2.0 will be a nice addition to the arsenal.
The Hammer NU 2.0 is readily available. See your local pro shop for more information.
